Trump: Trump That NFL Owners Are Afraid of Their Players

Before his big address in Indiana on tax reform, President Donald Trump spoke to Pete Hegseth about several of the big stories of the day, including NFL players protesting the national anthem.

The president doubled down in his belief that players should not be allowed to disrespect our country, flag or anthem.

He said that most Americans agree with him and believe that NFL owners should punish or fire players who refuse to stand for "The Star-Spangled Banner."

"I have so many friends that are owners, and they're in a box," Trump said. "I've spoken to a couple of them and they say, 'We are in a situation where we have to do something.' I think they're afraid of their players, if you want to know the truth. And I think it's disgraceful."

He said the NFL's ratings are "way down," and it could really hurt the league's bottom line if fans are driven away by the protests.

"When it comes to the respect of our nation, when it comes to the respect of our anthem and our flag, they have no choice," Trump said.
