Melania Trump Speaks to the UN, Tells World Leaders to 'Step Up' to Protect Children
First Lady Melania Trump addressed the United Nations on Wednesday,
calling for world leaders to "step up" to improve the lives of children
around the world.
"No child should ever feel hungry, stalked, frightened, terrorized,
bullied, isolated or afraid, with nowhere to turn. We need to step up,
come together, and ensure that our children's future is bright," Trump
said during a luncheon at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New
York City.
The audience included world leaders and their spouses, among others, according to the White House.
Trump said that children are often “hit first and
hardest in any country” when it comes to drug addiction, bullying,
poverty, disease, trafficking illiteracy and hunger.
"We must come
together for the good of our children, because through them our future
will be defined," Trump said, reiterating the importance of teaching
children by example the values of empathy and communication.
"I hope you will join me in recommitting ourselves to teaching the next generation to live by and honor the Golden Rule."
